MacBook Pro glowing logo

Can you turn off the new MacBook Pro’s glowing Apple logo?

Yes: Numerama’s launch hands-on says the new PROLED MacBook Pro’s illuminated Apple logo can be switched off. Here is what has been reported so far.

Yes, according to the launch hands-on

Yes. In his October 29 launch hands-on, Numerama’s Nicolas Lellouche says the PROLED MacBook Pro’s illuminated Apple logo can be switched off.

Reporting checked 29 October 2026. I have not used the new MacBook Pro. Amazon links are affiliate links.

Where is the switch?

Numerama’s hands-on does not show the switch or give its exact menu location. It confirms the option; the menu path is still unverified.

Does the logo brightness follow the screen?

Yes. Numerama says it changes with the display, despite using separate lighting circuits. The unlit logo looks dark. The old illuminated MacBooks instead let their LCD backlight shine through the logo.

Which new MacBook Pro are we talking about?

Apple announced the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display on October 28. They use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. The M6 MacBook Pro announced in the same week keeps Liquid Retina XDR, so the newest chip name does not identify the new OLED body.

The overlap matters when shopping. An earlier M5 Pro laptop and a new PROLED M5 Pro laptop can appear in the same results. Read the display name and full configuration before comparing prices. The M6 versus PROLED comparison separates the models.

A useful choice in dark rooms

The return of the light-up logo has plenty of nostalgia behind it. Having a way to turn it off is useful too: a laptop used in bed, in an audience or beside someone working in a dark room does not always need another visible light.

For buying decisions, start with the things you will look at all day. Our guides cover Touch and fingerprints, standard versus nano-texture glass and size, weight and sleeve fit. A familiar logo is a nice detail, but the screen, configuration and size have a much bigger effect on the purchase.

The two Amazon buttons identify U.S. Space Black PROLED M5 Pro configurations with 24GB memory and 1TB storage: B0HPMG3RWW for 14.2 inches and B0HPMMG8BW for 16.3 inches. Those listing identities were checked on October 29. Confirm the selected size, seller, keyboard region and delivery destination before ordering; a listing can offer several configurations.
